Comparing the Kindergarten Science Curriculum
of
Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland
Our group decided to compare the
two province’s science curriculum by creating a poster and by writing two
parodies of traditional songs.
I wrote the lyrics of this song
detailing Prince Edward Island’s science curriculum using the tune of Stompin’ Tom’s
song “Bud the Spud”. Carla Butt played the guitar and sang this song for our
group.
Prince Edward Island
We’re kindergarten teachers from the bright red mud, teaching
in our classrooms smilin’,
We’re teaching kids about five senses
On Prince Edward Island
Now in Ellerslie and Alberton,
Our play-based curriculum is fun,
When they get in class, they’re exploring their five senses…
They observe, compare, and investigate,
They measure and of course, they communicate,
And de-velo-ping vo-cab-u-lary,
They’re exploring their five senses !
I wrote the lyrics of this song
detailing Newfoundland’s science curriculum using the tune of “I’se the B’y”. Tammy Jeffery, Carla Butt, and
I all sang this song as Carla accompanied us on the guitar.
Newfoundland
I’se the b’y in kindergarten,
I’se the b’y that loves it,
I’se the b’y that teaches science,
In the class and outside it
Integrated curriculum,
Observing and recording,
Living and non-living things,
My world, I’m exploring
Planting seeds in soil,
Five senses I’m describing,
Predict if it will float or sink,
My world I’m exploring
Observing local weather,
A closer look at animals,
Using things around us,
Learning ‘bout life cycles
